Our Graduate Programme

Auckland Transport’s graduate programme, Ngā Kaihoe, is for all graduates looking to jumpstart their careers. Our 18-month programme provides graduates with flexibility, variety and the opportunity to co-design and define your career, doing worthwhile work that makes a difference to the community, its legacy stuff!

The 18-month programme provides graduates with the freedom to explore Auckland Transport, choosing your own adventure whilst being supported by amazing leaders. You will be offered security and stability in your home function while also getting the unique opportunity to explore work in other departments across Auckland Transport, diversifying skillset and making connections cross-functionally and cross-agency.

We place a huge value on our people, seen through the value Maanakitangā, we care…full stop. You will be provided with trust and flexibility of work, learning and development opportunities that grow an individual both professionally and personally, and opportunity to do work you are passionate about. Who are we looking for?

We look for candidates from a variety of disciplines, including: Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Business Technology, Business Management, Commerce, Marketing, Finance and Human Resources.

Within these disciplines, candidates could come from a broad spectrum of degrees and institutions; we are looking to attract the best talent irrespective of their background.

Within these disciplines, We are after people who have strong problem solving and analytic skills, lead themselves to achieve and have a passion for helping make Auckland the best place it can be! So, no, it is not just about your grades.

Within these disciplines, Our past graduate hires come from various backgrounds; they may have some prior work experience, extra-curricular activities, achievements, sports or team experience, clubs, community or volunteering involvement, strong interpersonal skills, and problem-solving ability.

What support does AT provide?

As part of the AT Early Career Programme, you are provided with a wide range of development support.

AT’s dedicated Graduate and Cadet Development pathway includes external and internal learning and development opportunities, which are available to you throughout your Graduate and Cadetship tenure. In addition, our innovative social learning platform allows you to work with a wide array of expert mentors – you get to search and select the right mentor for you and get customized professional coaching advice.

We are also very supportive of our graduates gaining professional qualifications and you will be supported at every step of the way. If you would like to step up your learning in a certain area, we will give you the time and financial support you need. We know that if you are moving forward, we will be too.

Who is eligible?

How do you know if I am eligible for AT’s Early Career Programme?o:p>

You should be applying for AT’s Graduate Programme in your final year of university study. Applications for the 2021 intake are now open from now until end of August, 2020.

I have already graduated, can I still apply?

Yes. The programme is intended to provide you with a great start to your career journey. We are very open-minded about what this means.

I am an international student, am I eligible to apply?

You are required to provide evidence that you are legally entitled to work in New Zealand for the duration of the graduate role, which is two years. For more information on visa requirements, visit New Zealand Immigration.
