The Asia New Zealand Foundation supports undergraduate (third and fourth-year) and post graduate science, IT and engineering students to intern at the research and development (R&D) campus of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) in Hsinchu, Taiwan.

The ITRI internship attracts interns from top universities from around the world and is designed to give you an experience of working in an R&D environment in Asia.

The successful applicants will be placed in ITRI R&D Centres at the Hsinchu Campus or at the ITRI Central Region Campus in Taiwan. They will join a team engaged in activities ranging from carrying out scientific experiments to writing up lab manuals.

During the internship, interns will gain experience in breakthrough product development, laboratory work and reporting.

They will be given a specific project or meaningful work to do. A mentoring supervisor will be assigned to monitor the interns’ professional development and welfare.

The internship will take place over three months (less than 90 days), between late November 2019 and February/March 2020.

Learn more about the Industrial Technology Research Institute on their website.

What's covered?

The Asia New Zealand Foundation covers return airfares and provides a stipend to cover living expenses in Taiwan. Interns stay in dormitories on the ITRI campus which offers a variety of dining and recreational facilities.

Interns will need to contribute around NZ$500 of their own funds to cover expenses. ITRI provides the accommodation free of charge and access to a subsidised dining hall.
