About the internship
United Media Solution (UMS)’s business encompasses marketing consulting, cultural analysis, and social media management. For more information about UMS visit the company’s website.
During the internship, the successful intern will be placed in UMS’s office in Shanghai. He/she will join a team engaged in activities ranging from public relations and marketing support for UMS’s client’s products in China. The intern will be given a specific project or meaningful work to do and a mentoring supervisor will be assigned to monitor the intern’s professional development. The internship period is for three months, starting in February 2019 and finishing in late April 2019.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to:
- Participate in meetings, workshops, and be able to bring fresh thinking to the planning process
- Assist with digital marketing related work
Applicants must be:
- New Zealand citizens or have New Zealand permanent resident status
- an enrolled student upon return from the internship – i.e. returning to continue studying at university / graduate school in 2019.
- in good health
- adaptable, mature, reliable and resilient
- interested in pursuing a career involving China and the wider Asian Region.
Ideal candidates will have a pre-existing interest in Asia and will aspire to develop their capacity for working in cross-cultural environments. Strong writing skills are mandatory for this internship. Knowledge of Chinese language, while useful, is not a prerequisite for the internship as English is widely spoken at UMS.
The internship costs will be split between the Asia New Zealand Foundation, UMS and the intern.
The Foundation provides a grant as a subsidy to cover round-trip airfares to and from China, travel insurance, living expenses, and accommodation costs. UMS will provide the cost of commuting from the Hutong School to its Shanghai office.
The selected intern will be required to contribute NZ$500 of their own funds to cover some living expenses while offshore.
