Life as a Graduate at KPMG
KPMG has a central Learning and Development function to ensure that you have all the tools you need to succeed in your role and continue to develop. Your learning and development journey will start with an Induction day where you will learn the ropes and begin to understand how everything works as well as information on where to access resources and key functions. Following this induction, you will also attend divisional training as relevant to your particular team and will be introduced to the technical elements of your role.
KPMG applies a 70:20:10 learning model which means that approximately 10% of your learning will occur through formal training, 20% will be via social networks, through discussions, feedback and conversations with your managers and peers and 70% of your learning will occur via on the job training. When you start with KPMG you will be allocated a buddy whose job it is to help you settle in and ensure that you have somebody to ask questions and coach you through your first few months with us.
As a graduate, you will attend a Graduate Camp during your first few months. This is a unique KPMG Story; the values and vision that we stand behind and how it applies to the work that you will be doing.
Graduate Camp is an immersive cultural experience which takes place on a marae in Northland. Camp gives you the opportunity to build lasting friendships not only with your peers but with many of our senior leaders and partners within KPMG whilst experiencing Māori culture.
Your First Year at KPMG
Within your first year at KPMG, you will be asked to set goals, meet with your performance manager and start to plan the career pathway you wish to pursue as well as explore the specific skill set you want to build within KPMG.
You will attend a number of both technical pieces of training and leadership development courses as well as have the opportunity to attend many interest events on everything ranging from Technical Tax Updates to Inclusion and Diversity panels.
By the end of your first year as a graduate, you may be asked to buddy our incoming interns, giving you the opportunity to not only be coached but to coach others.
Many of our graduates also begin to study during the second half of their first year. For many of our people, this will mean studying towards chartered accountancy, however, others also study across Law, Financial Advisory, Risk Advisory and more.
We encourage you to research and find a qualification that is both relevant to your role and aligns with your goals. Our team is dedicated to ensuring you have all the support you need whilst you are studying, providing administrative support and guidance in regards to studying and helping you make the most of the support provided by KPMG.
