Here’s what some of our interns had to say:
My summer internship at MBIE has been a fantastic opportunity to get a look inside what goes on in a big government department and to get a first-hand taste of what policy advisors do in their day to day jobs. I got to work within a really fun and supportive team who were always ready to include and involve me in projects of interest and never shirked from answering my ‘silly’ questions. It was also great to get to know a really great bunch of fellow interns working in different parts of the organization. At the end of my internship, I was offered the opportunity to extend my contract and stay on at MBIE on a part-time basis while I finish my studies.
I was really stoked to get a place in the MBIE Summer Internship Programme; it was a chance to get some awesome experience in what I’m now sure I want to do, as well as being less poor following the end of the uni year. The people I work with are sweet and they were actually interested in what skills I had and what they could help me develop. The programme included some regular meetings, seminars and catch ups with other interns (that included the occasional BYO) and felt super supportive the whole way through. At the end of my internship, I got offered a contract extension to stay on and continue working on a number of projects I’d been involved with as an intern – so I can’t have done too badly over the summer. All in all, the Summer Internship Programme was worth every minute and I’d seriously recommend MBIE as an employer to anyone.
