Policy Graduate Programme - Oranga Tamariki
We're on an exciting, bold journey working to advance the wellbeing and positive long-term outcomes for tamariki. As a Graduate Policy Analyst, you will be right at the cutting edge of developing policies that ultimately improve the lives of tamariki and rangatahi in the Care and Protection and Youth Justice systems.
About the programme
We have four Policy teams at Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children, each covering a wide range of interesting and challenging social policy issues.
As part of our graduate programme, you will provide high quality analysis and advice on issues ranging from early intervention for some of New Zealand’s most at-risk tamariki, through to supporting rangatahi to transition out of the care system.
Our graduate development programme offers:
- Exposure to a wide range of policy issues, including insight into the frontline work of our social workers
- Coaching, mentoring and a tailored training and development programme
- A supportive cohort of graduates who will grow alongside you
Who we are looking for?
Everyone’s pathway to Oranga Tamariki is unique and we actively seek individuals with different perspectives who can contribute to the diversity of the Policy group.
There are also some key qualities and skills we look out for:
- An interest in and passion for the work we do
- Clear and logical writing skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Taking initiative
- A collaborative working style
- Confident communication skills
- An understanding of issues that impact on tamariki and rangatahi Māori and their whānau, hapū and iwi
To be eligible, you must be already graduated or due to finish your tertiary level degree by February 2021. We are open to graduates from a range of degree disciplines including (but not limited to) public policy, social sciences, economics and law.
This position is open to anyone with work rights in New Zealand (current visa, residency or citizenship).
You must be available to attend an assessment day on Tuesday the 1st of September and to commence the programme in early February 2021.
Application close on Sunday the 9th of August 2020
