The Need
In Aotearoa New Zealand today, the circumstances children are born to predict the opportunities they will have in life. Our education system does not serve all young people equally; in fact, it is four times more likely to fail students from low-income communities.
The Opportunity
Lasting change takes a network of brave, grounded leaders working together, inside and outside of schools, fighting for the aspirations of young people and their families. We work with graduates towards an education system and by extension a society, that gives everybody an equitable access to opportunity. The Teach First NZ Programme provides a path for you to make a positive impact in a secondary school serving a low-income community, whilst earning a full salary and completing a fully-scholarshipped Postgraduate Diploma of Teaching over two years. At the end of it, you’ll be a qualified teacher and can continue to make progress towards equality in whichever way you choose, supported by our strong national and global networks.
Whether you want to work towards a fairer Aotearoa, grow as a leader, or give back to the community which has given you so much, we’re happy for the chance to korero.
