Alysha Ali – 2018 Graduate

What did you Study?

The University of Auckland, Bachelor of Commerce – Major in Accounting and Commercial Law

Why did you choose Toll?

When applying for a job after University, it was super important to me to find a company that provided a great amount of variety and opportunity for its graduates. Starting a career is a daunting decision but Toll has helped make the transition between University and the workforce easy with its support teams and people. A hugely attractive aspect to the program were the various rotations throughout different parts of the business which allow us the opportunity to grow and with constant exposure to the many different aspects of the Logistics industry allows us to understand what interests us and where we would like to further develop our skills and careers.

What’s the coolest thing about your job so far?

The coolest thing about my job is the opportunities that I have been exposed too. I have been lucky enough to work on site with our largest New Zealand customer and see their operations for picking and packing their freight. Also incredibly cool is I was selected to go to Singapore for one of my rotations! It’s a huge opportunity to see how Toll operates internationally and allow me to develop skills that I can use as I progress further into my career with Toll once the graduate program is completed.

What has been the biggest takeaway from the program so far?

The biggest takeaway has been the vast amount of personal skills that I have been able to develop in the program. Toll has an incredible program for Graduates which allow us to connect with multitudes of staff at various levels, customers and suppliers. Building and creating these connections has allowed me to gain knowledge of skills that I can use to take me further into my future career with Toll.

What do you look forward to each day?

I look forward to the new challenges and the variety of working with Toll. No two days are ever truly the same and there is always something happening. Also the people! The whole team at Toll is so friendly and helpful.

What advice would you give a new graduate?

Remember to take every opportunity as a learning experience! There are definitely always some tough moments but being resilient and pushing through will give you a different understanding of the task you may be doing as well as a newfound strength you may have not known you had.
