Our Graduate Programme

As a graduate working for Transpower, you will get the opportunities, experience, and support to kickstart your career and achieve your goals.

Our programs are designed to provide you with the best possible start to your career. When you’re selected for the Graduate Programme you can look forward to practical, on the job training and exposure to various Transpower teams. This will give you the skills and experience to progress into a focused role within Transpower, in an area of interest to you.

This year we are recruiting the following types of graduates onto our graduate program:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
Engineering graduates in Transpower’s Graduate Programme are managed by the Talent and Development Specialist who is responsible for the performance and development of all graduates.

During our two-year Graduate Programme you will rotate through various areas of the business. You’ll gain a broad knowledge of what we do, how we work, and who we work with – and you’ll get the chance to explore how you wish to shape your future with us.

We have offices in Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington, and Christchurch. You’ll nominate one of these as your home base, but you’ll also need to work in other locations to broaden your experience.

When you’re working away from home we’ll provide you with accommodation (usually flat-sharing with other graduates) and an allowance to cover day-to-day expenses. We believe that the best learning happens on the job. You’ll learn from other talented people at Transpower through on-the-job coaching, mentoring and peer support. You’ll always have someone to get advice from and bounce ideas off, and you’ll attend a variety of courses to support your technical learning and help you develop more general business skills.

As an Engineering New Zealand Professional Development Partner, we can support you in moving from Emerging Professional to Full Engineering Membership during the programme. We are committed to making Transpower a leader in safety by achieving injury-free workplaces for our employees and contractors. Safety is our top priority, and you’ll learn about our safety culture when you start. You’ll also be provided with opportunities to develop your knowledge about safety, and we encourage you to become a safety leader at Transpower.
