It’s very rewarding to see how students change and develop over time. You can see the children grow up physically and also ability-wise. It’s really amazing to be able to journey with them and see how they get to improve.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with different kinds of people from all over the world. It’s such a “United Nations” here. The cross-cultural sharing of ideas and strong work ethics has transformed me for the better.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be able to speak Chinese?
No. We actually never use Chinese in the classroom. Don't worry if you think that sounds strange; when you take our sponsored TEFL course, it will become clear how we do this. And when it comes to life outside of work, most cities in China have English road signs and English metro station names. Restaurants mostly have menus written in English, and if not, they generally have pictures. Learning some basic survival Chinese when you arrive, such as addresses for taxis, is recommended, although it is just to make things a little easier. Nowadays, you can do most of your daily tasks using translation apps in English!
Will I be able to save money?
Yes! While of course it depends on your lifestyle, you certainly can save on your teacher's salary. The salary is above average in China, so there's opportunity for you to save, pay off student loans, or put some money aside for holiday plans.
I don't have any teaching experience. Can I still apply?
Yes. While we value those with previous teaching experience, it is not a requirement. We will provide all the skills, training and professional development you need to feel confident in the classroom. As long as you have a bachelor's degree, we can support you with the rest.
I have never lived abroad before. Will it be difficult to adjust?
You are not alone. We have a large community of English teachers in China who are here to support one another. EF has its own social network for teachers to ask questions and seek assistance. Along with that, we organize social and cultural events for our staff so they can meet others and enjoy all that China has to offer.
